Our Journey continues...Idaho Falls.
Some of my most favorite summer time memories have occurred in my hometown of Idaho Falls, ID. I'm so happy to have grown up here. It's a good city, with good people and full of good memories.
My parents neighbors have this cool "bicycle" that we got to ride around the neighborhood...
Smitty's Pancake House is a must when we go to Idaho Falls. I always get the potato pancakes. Yes, there are actual shreds of potato in there! It's good, I promise.
My Dad turned 62 AND retired (for the 2nd time!) on July 1st. So we had a surprise party for him. The morning of the party we were all rushing around getting things ready for the party while Maddie made this "to-do" list for us...
Here he is surprised as he entered the backyard...
Later on the 4th we crossed out "and retirement" and replaced it with "America". :) We like to recycle...
Idaho Falls has had some long standing 4th of July events and one of these is the parade. It's always drawn a huge crowd but it seems that in the last 3-4 years it's just gotten crazy popular. When I still lived at home my Dad would usually go place some chairs and blankets along our favorite area of the parade route and then we would have a great spot to enjoy the parade. But over the years he now has to put our chairs and blankets out a WEEK prior to the parade to save our spot!
Before the parade is the Firecracker 5K. It's a nice run through the historic district of Idaho Falls, which happens to be the neighborhood that I grew up in. It's fun to reminisce as I run along the streets. I walked those streets for many years as my sisters and I would walk to and from elementary school.

There I am...
I snapped this picture right after the 5K on my way out the door to watch the parade. I love the feeling of my parents house on a sunny summer day, especially on the 4th of July.
On to the the parade... Lyndon is found covering his ears for a lot of it.

You can't have a parade without a good band...
The parade route goes just at the end of my parents street. This is an example of the cool houses along their block... Lots of trees and cool old houses.
After the parade my parents always have a BBQ in the backyard for family and friends. My Dad usually makes homemade root beer. YUM.
For some reason I didn't take any pictures of the actual BBQ so we are now moving on to the fireworks later in the evening. Idaho Falls puts of what has been called, "The Best Firework Show West of the Mississippi". I really can't say that is in fact true, but I will say they really are amazing.
Idaho Falls has a population of about 50,000 people and it's said that there are about 100,000 people who come downtown Idaho Falls to watch the fireworks. It's busy, to say the least.
While we wait for it it get dark we usually bring dinner to munch on... This year we had pizza pockets from Bambinos. Yum.
Beautiful sunset.
And there it is...
The evening after the 4th we roasted marshmallows in my parents backyard in preparation for lighting off our own fireworks. I love a good s'more.
The two pictures below make me laugh. Maddie is soooooo excited to light her firework (with the help of her Dad, of course) but you can see just how fast she runs away as soon as it is lit.

Jonathon and I attempted to draw a heart together but it turned out to just be a bum... oh well. :)
