The Bats.

If you don't live near Austin you probably have no idea that Austin is home to the worlds largest urban bat colony. Who knew, right? There are over 1 million bats that live under the Congress Bridge every summer. That means there are more bats than there are people in Austin during the summer months!

One of the "things to do" in Austin is to go to Congress Bridge at dusk and watch the bats fly out from under the bridge. We've lived here for 5 years and this was the first time we've gone to see the bats. I must say, it was pretty cool. Stinky, but cool.

Our friends joined us making the adventure even more fun. Oh, and we brought Charlie too...

Sweet little Stella...

It's crazy how many people come out every single evening to watch this. Look at all those people lined up on the bridge...

Maddie and Lucy waiting for the bats...

And here they are...

A lot of people rent boats or even take tours to watch them from the lake...

And there you have it, the Austin bats. Just another way to keep Austin Weird.

btw, I'm guest posting on The Crafting Chicks blog today!
